You have your slasher premise but in a time-loop comedy package. It is quick and never punitive, with a plot to match.
**Scare level:** Medium
**Best for:** Those in the mood for a little tension and some intelligence
### 4. **The Sixth Sense**
Mood and mystery are what you will find here, not shock tactics. In its way it is quite gentle and still manages to be eerie and moving. *Signs*
A film of family drama that is as much about being tense and quiet as it is anything else. What is scary here is in the sound and what you are left to imagine, not in any graphic display.
**Scare level:** Medium
**Best for:** Those after some ghost-story atmosphere with none of the gross-out factor
### 5. *Poltergeist*
You could call this an old-school classic and it would be no exaggeration. The supernatural elements are there but they have a certain excitement to them, not despair.
**Scare level:** Medium
**Best for:** An adventure in horror from the good old days
### 6. *M3GAN*
Self-aware, funny and creepy. It has a villain to make you laugh and a meme or two while also putting the fear into you; the movie knows its modern audience well enough to do so. And in a way it suits how one puts on a horror film these days: put on something spooky at home by way of streaming and then get online to discuss it with friends. Incredibly smart, if not the softest of the bunch. There is real tension to be had but it will also have a word in on the tropes of the genre.

Since tolerance for a scare varies from person to person, I go about matching the beginner to a film in the following manner:
- *Beetlejuice* or *Gremlins* if the idea of being scared is not appealing
- **The Sixth Sense** or **The Others** for the mystery lover
- **Happy Death Day** or *M3GAN* for a modern and entertaining time
- *Poltergeist* for a classic
- Put yourself to the test with **A Quiet Place** or *Scream*
